About the event
This workshop is for beginners or anyone who has tried felting and wants to learn more. There is an addtional $30 supply fee to be paid to the instructor in class. We will spend the morning learning why wool felts as we create basic shapes like a rope, ball and a small piece of cloth. Students will be exposed to wet and dry felting techniques, and different types of wool and embellishments, including silk. In the afternoon you will design your own project using the techniques you’ve been taught. There will be plenty of examples of seasonal decorations you can create, as well as gifts for the holidays, or you can go in a different direction. You will have help planning and executing your piece of felted art. So join us for a day of tactile therapy as you block out all distractions for a few hours. Do a friend a favor and bring them along. Your supply fee of $30 will include the materials you need for class, as well as additional supplies to take home. This workshop is on the 2nd floor and is accessible using a staircase.
A Note From Tate Dunn -
I have been interested in textile art since I was in high school. Fabric, fibers, yarn, natural dyes, I’ve loved them all. I started knitting and felting hats in the late 80’s and moved to fiber felting in the 1990s. To me, taking protein fibers, particularly merino wool and silk, and creating an object, is magical. It is a process that you have some control over, but it can always surprise you. After working with several accomplished instructors, I learned how to improve my technique in wet and dry felting. Understanding the process is key to better outcomes. Whether you are a complete novice, or you have some experience felting, I believe you will benefit from learning new techniques.
